Flying on a Broom of Sassafras Wood

(Poem by Sophia Shapira)

The visions that you see at night,
Both those of hope and those of fright,
Unafraid, you dive right in,
Not limited by flesh and skin.

Soaring as fast as your heart does feel
Weaving through dreams and through what is real.
Having more fun than you really should
Flying on a broom of sassafras wood.

Hidden desires long suppressed;
Sorrow and joy buried in your chest;
Confronting the stranger behind the mask;
Never’s there been such a grueling task.

Fly down to the depths of your hidden self,
Wiping the dust from your psyche’s shelf;
Going deeper than you otherwise could
Flying on a broom of sassafras wood.

  1. Hanna Shapira says:

    As always – I am speechless.

  2. You really catch the essence of dreams here in such a beautiful way. I love the use of “broom of sassafras wood”.
